Online coverage of Bolsover Festival

Thursday 29 September, 2016

The 11th running of the Bolsover Festival of Brass is set to take place on Sunday 2 October at Heritage High School in Clowne, from which over 14 hours of live brass band broadcasting will be aired on the Internet.

Following the success of the 2015 event, which attracted viewers from 32 countries around the globe, the 20-minute entertainment sets from bands in the Championship and 1st Sections will be broadcast live around the world, with all performances from the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and Unregistered Sections recorded for future broadcast.

Festival spokesperson Scott Chambers commented to British Bandsman: “A huge amount of interest has been generated in advance of this year’s events with extensive local and regional media coverage already highlighting the innovative approach of a contest that will see 45 entertainment programmes delivered by the competing bands, with over 2,000 musicians taking part.”

In addition, a series of ‘Fringe Festival’ events in partnership with the First Art organisation will be taking place in a number of local locations, such as the Diamond Centre in Kirkby-in-Ashfield and Shirland Miners Welfare in North East Derbyshire, which will enable supporters and brass band lovers to link into the broadcasts from the comfort of community venues.

The first band will take to the stage at 9.00am and this year the innovative approach will hopefully see more people become involved through social media. The event will have a special social media co-ordinator on hand throughout the day, ensuring that those who get in touch through Twitter or Facebook will have their comments and best wishes appearing on screen.

This year family and friends, supporters, players, conductors and even rival bands can directly involved by interacting on Twitter @FirstArtProject using the dedicated hashtag #festofbrass. Links to the livestream will also be found on BB’s Twitter (@bb1887) and Facebook pages.
