Cory in concert at Royal Albert Hall

Thursday 29 September, 2016

Cory Band will deliver the end-of-contest concert before the Awards Ceremony for the Championship Section Final at the National Brass Band Championships in London’s Royal Albert Hall on 8 October.

Cory’s concert programme, included as part of a day-ticket, will include Malambo (Alberto Ginastera arr. Phillip Littlemore), Denis Wright’s arrangement of Rossini’s The Thieving Magpie, Live and Let Die (Paul McCartney arr. Ray Farr) and Cute (Neil Hefti arr. Philip Sparke). The reigning National Champion band will also perform Musical Director Philip Harper’s arrangements of Billy Joel’s Lullabye (Goodnight My Angel) and John Williams’ Star Wars.

The Awards Ceremony of the Royal Albert Hall contest will also feature the presentation of the 2016 Iles and Mortimer Medals by the Worshipful Company of Musicians to leading brass band conductor Russell Gray and youth band leader Samantha Harrison respectively, the first time that the medals will have been presented at the National Finals.

The Fanfare Trumpeters of the Band of The Prince of Wales’s Division, under Director of Music Captain Paul Collis-Smith, will perform a fanfare as the 2016 Champion Band is announced.

Meanwhile, a new website has been launched as an online showcase and information point for the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain. The latest developments for this ten-event series can be found at www.nationalbrassbandchampionships.com.
